Love After Lockup: Bad Editing Pattern?

The new season of WeTv’s hit series Love During Lockup has finally begun, and there is already controversy: on and off-screen. Viewers are learning about the “felons” and their partners who love them through the one-hour episodes that are airing each week. With six couples airing this season -there is a limited amount of time for each couple per episode which may lead to editing issues.

The first cast member this season to speak out against the editing of her storyline is LaTisha Collier. LaTisha took exception to how editing portrayed her husband’s future role in her business and posted the following message to her social media.

LaTisha also wanted to clarify her conversation and friendship with Deanna – further explaining the timing of filming. Many fans do not realize these shows are sometimes filmed almost a year before airing.

Life After Lockup’s Monique Robinson provided some support and advice to LaTisha on how to deal with the issues that may arise from “bad editing”.

LaTisha spoke exclusively with WOTSR and further emphasized that Keith will not be a part of her accounting business once he is released from prison. He will be serving as an overall general advisor to her company as a whole – and more importantly- to her. LaTisha and Keith plan to expand and form several other businesses together as a couple – separate from her accounting/tax preparation practice.

LaTisha is not the first cast member to come forward about producers leaving out an essential part of the storyline for the sake of drama. Sarah Simmons, who appeared on season two of Love After Lockup as part of a “love triangle” with her husband Michael – revealed previously in an interview with Screenrant that she is actually very close with Michael’s father.

“I feel like Michael’s father – I know you don’t see him on the show or anything like that, but his father and I are extremely close. We’ve always been close. He has always sent gifts for the kids on Christmas, birthdays, and all types of holidays. He’s always reached out, and he Facetimes with the girls”.

Onscreen, her relationship with Michael’s family – mainly his mother was tense. Viewers never saw any interaction between Sarah and Michael’s father, which would reasonably lead the viewer to believe Michael’s entire family didn’t like Sarah.

Eagle-eyed fans have also noticed not-so-subtle “editing errors” throughout the seasons. One particular Reddit post highlights how Shavel Moore’s hair changed seemingly mid-scene.

Speaking of hair: eagle-eyed Twitter users noticed last season on Life After Lockup Shawn and Sara Osborne’s baby Addie was growing rapidly – almost too quickly.

Speaking of Shawn, his ex girlfriend’s Destinie’s mid-scene makeup and wardrobe changes have also been spotted and called out by Reddit detectives.

All this sloppy editing naturally leads to the question – how scripted is “reality tv”? Editing is necessary – of course. But when a scene is edited to the point it affects the truthfulness of the content – then it is no longer “reality tv.” What do you think? Please drop me a comment below!
