Love During Lockup Season 5 Premiere – Meet The Couples!

Love During Lockup premiered for its fifth season on Friday, April 19, 2024. Felon Friday is back! Fans of the Love After Lockup series are excited to welcome their favorite show back on Friday nights. The season premiere – “The Watcher & The Dancer” seems to have one common denominator within these new couples – a secret.

Tennie/Rob

Tennie and Rob met back in high school when they briefly dated. Rob is currently serving 16 years out of his 18-year sentence for a robbery he committed when he was 18 years old. He and Tennie reconnected through Facebook and fell in love. Tennie – who has two children from a previous relationship – and Rob have been married for four years. During the episode, we also learn that Rob is “big on security” and has cameras installed throughout Tennie’s house – except for the bathroom and the kids’ rooms. Rob can monitor the cameras on his cell phone – which the correctional officers conveniently ignore.

Tennie and her children visit Rob every weekend. Her children are concerned about the dynamics once Rob is released and spends time with them in person. Her children point out the fact that they have never spent time with Rob outside of prison. Another thing that may affect Tennie and Rob’s relationship is “his secret” that he can’t seem to bring himself to tell his wife.

Andrew and Candice:

Andrew found the love of his life Candice on a prison pen pal website. After three letters, Candice wanted to make their relationship official. Candice is serving her time in a Nevada correctional institution and Andrew is in New Jersey. When viewers are introduced to Andrew – a warehouse supervisor- he admits he has spent anywhere from $12k to $15k on Candice. He has secured an apartment in Nevada for her along with a truck, furnishings, clothes, and money. Andrew also freely admits he has borrowed from his 401k before and will do it again if necessary.

On the season premiere Andrew visits with a financial advisor who advises him to stop spending money he doesn’t have. With all of his and Candice’s monthly expenses, it adds up to almost all of Andrew’s income. The financial advisors advised against taking out more credit cards or other loans.

When Andrew disclosed to Candice that he visited a financial advisor she was furious. “Are you broke?” She became increasingly furious with Andrew before hanging up on him.

Candice is one of two current LDLU cast members on social media.

Joey/Michael

Joey and Michael are the first gay male couple featured on Love During/After Lockup and so far their storyline is also being overshadowed by a “secret”. Joey didn’t come out as gay until he was thirty years old. He was already an alcoholic trying to mask the pain he felt inside when ten years ago his parents encouraged him to put his stuff in storage and move back in to save money. Joey still currently lives with his parents.

Joey and Michael met right before Michael was arrested. Michael has been in and out of prison for the last 15 years. Joey says he was in a “slutty phrase” when they first met Michael but now it’s true love. Joey hasn’t been able to visit Michael in prison, however, because the prison requires proof that they knew each other before Michael was imprisoned. The problem is Joey says “they were busy doing other things” to take pictures together. This is why Michael wants Joey to “doctor” a picture and send it to the prison so they can see each other.

Joey is leery of this plan and so is Joey’s father. Joey’s father is worried about this relationship for Joey because of his prior substance abuse and how Michael will affect his sobriety. Joey is worried because he is keeping a “big secret” from his family.

Ayonna/Jamhal

Ayonna is an exotic dancer who says the pole gives her “financial independence” as a single mother. She doesn’t need to depend on anyone but herself when it comes to supporting herself and her child. She is anxiously awaiting her love Jamhal to be released from prison shortly. She met Jamhal when he was dating her ex-best friend. Needless to say her “bestie” wasn’t happy with this new relationship and a physical altercation occurred between them. Viewers are treated to a clip of the actual physical altercation.

Now it turns out Ayonna may need to find an alternate alternative to support her children for some time. Ayonna received a phone call from an attorney who informed her with the first charge – assault and now her new charge – a DUI- she will be facing jail time. Her attorney advised her it can be anywhere from fifteen to ninety days of jail time. Ayonna dissolves into tears wondering what she will do next.
