90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days: Meisha’s Road To Pastoral Care

When viewers met Meisha Johnson on 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days, they learned her road to her current career as Director of Pastoral Ministries at the Archdiocese of St. Paul & Minneapolis was not a conventional one. Meisha’s love story isn’t a conventional one, either. Meisha fell in love with Nicola – a 46-year-old virgin still living with his mother in Israel. Nicola is quite the opposite of what the divorced mother of two Meisha is used to. Meisha is going to Israel to meet Nicola with high hopes of getting engaged to the man she has talked to for seven years.

Meisha’s career started on television. She was a traffic reporter for various news stations in Philadelphia and Minnesota. Here is a clip from her traffic reporter days.

In this interview with Faith On The Field – Meisha describes religion being a “concept” growing up. She explained that her parents would take her to Church on holidays as a child, but she never fully understood why. Meisha further explains that her religious enlightenment experience occurred during a stressful time in her life. She was going through a painful divorce, and her father suffered from stage 4 stomach cancer. According to the National Association of Chaplains: “The director of pastoral care is responsible for the development and implementation of a continuum of pastoral services aimed at meeting the goals and objectives of the department. These services are available to all patients/residents/clients, families, and staff. In this pursuit, the director is responsible to administration for the economic and human resources of the pastoral care department.”

In simple terms: Meisha’s job involves helping gather the resources for people who are terminally ill and wish to have a full Catholic funeral, last rites, or other Catholic rituals upon request. The Director of Pastoral Care works with hospitals, nursing homes, other healthcare facilities, and the Catholic Church to help fulfill the last wishes. Pastoral care also involves coordinating prayers for those seriously sick or about to have serious surgery. A request can be put in with a local church in the jurisdiction of the archdiocese.

Meisha explains one of the many reasons she became Catholic:

“I am often moved to tears of gratitude for what God has done in my life. I thank him for leading me out of the darkness and into the brightness of the one, holy, Catholic and apostolic Church — the Church instituted by Christ himself. I thank him for the grace to participate in her life-transformative sacraments and liturgical practices. In my view, it is next to impossible to walk into a cathedral, or any Catholic church for that matter, and not be completely awestruck by her wonder — steeped in the richest of history and tradition, adorned with breathtaking beauty and artwork, overcome by the sweetest and most powerful aroma of incense that permeates the soul.”

Nicola explained that his site lists Catholic Novena Prayers that many Catholics have forgotten and has his site as a resource for those who need it. Meisha’s site offers Catholic resources such as “7 Most Effective Prayers To The Holy Spirit For Power and Intercession” and “7 Most Powerful Psalms To Pray Before Bed”.

While Meisha started with a “glamorous” life as a traffic reporter – Meisha has changed her career, and it seems her life path is devoted to God and the Catholic Church. What do you think?
