August 3, 2023October 7, 2023 90 Day Fiancé: Increasing Online Harassment Of Cast? Spread the love When someone signs up to appear on a reality show, it is with certainty that increased attention will be brought their way. Not only is your life being shown on television to millions of viewers, curiosity grows. Viewers – who see a few minutes of their favorite (or not so favorite) cast member every week on their favorite show become curious about their lives off-screen. Cast members have social media accounts and use them often to interact with their fans. There are also public groups on platforms such as Facebook and Reddit where fans gather to express their opinions and feelings. In the case of 90 Day Fiancé cast member Holly Weeks, some allegedly’s “curiosity” went way too far. Both Holly and Wayne Cornish – featured on 90 Day Fiancé The Other Way season five – have spoken out against “trolls” who have taken their opinions and feelings about them and their relationship too far. Wayne posted on his social media lashing out against someone he was angry with for saying that Holly and her mother were featured on an episode of “Hoarders.” In a video on his TikTok account, Wayne expressed his anger against the woman who made that comment as “actually talking nonsense” and just wanted “to catch shine, she wanted to have followers, I don’t know, be a part of the conversation. So, she made up any crap she can think of”. Check out the rest of Wayne’s video below, where he continues to express disappointment and anger against fans who “make up stuff” when “we are supposed to be uplifting each other.” https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPRWQLVw4/ Wayne further goes on in a separate video posted to his TikTok account captioned “A message to 90 Day Fiancé and there (sp) creators who only care about lining there (sp) pockets”. In the video, Wayne angrily blasts those “too scared to stand up because they are afraid of those who won’t like their comment.” Wayne compares 90 Day Fiancé content to “little governments” where “everyone follows the leader.” Check out Wayne’s full video below. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPRWQHXwR/ Holly’s social media shows a frightening pattern of trolling, bullying, and “doxxing.” ‘Doxxing” is when a “public figure’s” address is published on the internet without the other party’s permission. Holly shared that she was “doxxed” and she is fearful of leaving her home because of it. She also shared that her anxiety has increased because of the bullying she has received online. Holly has even contacted Entertainment Tonight about a televised segment about her. As seen in her social media post – Holly emailed Entertainment Tonight concerning “false information” put out about her in a feature. The news reporter indicated that Wayne called Holly “skanky” and that Holly “tried on the shortest dress in the store.” Holly captioned her post, “I just emailed Entertainment Tonight for spreading false information. Let’s see how they handle it. Like I don’t have enough false info and gossip spread about me”. While Holly’s case of fan attention gone wrong may seem extreme, other cast members have also spoken out against unnecessarily cruel and hurtful comments. Amanda Wilhelm from 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days season 6 refuses to take any “hateful” comments lying down. She warns – if you strike first – she will clap back. Daniele Gates of 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way expressed a similar opinion about the comments she sees about her. Jasmine Pineda from 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days recently expressed how much hurtful comments and rumors spread about her sister Liz being her daughter affected them. Jasmine said not only her mental health was affected – but her sister Liz’s mental health as well. Riley from 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days season 6 replied to a comment on a post that referred to editing during the scene where he met Violet’s family. Riley’s statement highlights another common problem in reality television: editing and dubbing. In many instances, scenes are edited, and later scenes may not make sense in context with the edited one the viewer just watched. What do you think of all of this? Has commentary gotten out of control, or do cast members need thicker skin? Where is the line drawn? What is the proper boundary between fan feedback and “trolling”?
